The Lab Manager will provide leadership and be responsible for ensuring compliance of laboratory operations. Will help maintain/adjust workflow to meet TAT, make recommendations, as needed, to improve laboratory functionality, and supervising Lab Tech staff. Will be responsible for ensuring compliance and integration of facility operation with quality assurance, ethics, safety and other corporate and regulatory policies and procedures. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the daily management of employees, review of laboratory results, inspection, and evaluation of laboratory equipment. The Lab Manager focuses on planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the work of the department to effectively maximize employee, equipment, and material utilization within budgetary constraints while adhering to quality technical standards. This role provides direct on-site supervision of specimen workflow, test performance, quality, compliance, and associated documentation to adhere to the department and company policies and procedures. The Laboratory Manager creates, modifies and approves lab procedures and provides training and technical assistance to reporting staff. This individual collects data, prepares management reports, and interprets results, for Laboratory Directors. Additional coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. This individual will also serve as the CLIA general supervisor for this practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Oversee staff and activities of the department: distribute/assign work; determine priorities; schedule non-routine procedures; assist in the performance of personnel related functions (hiring, firing, discipline, training, etc.) • Provide mentoring and guidance to staff as needed for personal and professional growth • Provide overall supervision of employees by approving schedules, observing work performance, conferring, and meeting with employees (One on Ones), and conducting and reviewing employee evaluations • Instruct laboratory personnel, new employees, and others regarding test performance; make recommendations to correct problems when necessary and recommend staffing changes to accommodate changing work loads • Manage and conduct validation studies as requested. • Ensure testing personnel adhere to all SOPs, policies, and procedures • Initiate quality control measures and monitor quality of work and adherence to laboratory standards • Complete special projects as requested, e.g., surveys, statistical reports, research, and validation studies. • Review laboratory results and reports by analyzing statistical data, quality control data, and other data to ensure timeliness and accuracy of reporting • Order or recommend ordering or repairing of laboratory equipment and supplies as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Educational/Experience Requirements: • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science or in a related science (e.g., laboratory sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, immunology, etc.). AND completion of a medical technology clinical practice program. Clinical practice programs completed after 1974 must have been accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP, formerly CAHEA), or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). The professional curriculum may have consisted of a post-baccalaureate certificate program or be integrated into a four year program of study that culminated in a baccalaureate degree. ~OR~, A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one course in microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry (with one course in organic or biochemistry) and one course in mathematics, AND two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience (e.g., blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical microscopy, etc.) within the last ten years as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC), American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR) or American Medical Technologists

Knowledge of: • Prior Clinical Laboratory experience in the areas of Point-of-Care, Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology • Knowledge of clinical laboratory function/operation and access to resources both administrative and organizational required • Thorough knowledge of regulatory (state and federal) agency requirements and professional practice standards to include CLIA, COLA, CAP, NCQA, AABB, local, state and federal regulations. • Comprehensive knowledge of the function of a medical laboratory. • Thorough knowledge of principles of supervision, management, personnel management, financial analysis and budgeting.

Critical Skills: • Experience in a clinical laboratory (CLIA certified) setting • Experience with chemistry and instruments • Knowledge of HIPAA and laboratory SOPs, regulatory and safety procedures.

Additional Skills: • Skill in using computers for Laboratory Information Management System testing, and record-keeping functions. • Ability to communicate appropriately, both orally and written. • Ability to collaborate effectively with health care teams. • Ability to recognize and resolve hazardous conditions. • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Ability to demonstrate full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye–hand coordination in use of equipment and instruments. • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
