Your application of accounting principles drives operational success and achieves crucial business objectives. -- Strategic Leadership * Leads Finance/Accounting function for the organization * Informs, consults, and advises CEO and GM on untapped opportunities, strategic positioning, and cashflow management * Provides technical (accounting) expertise and collaborates with department heads to meet business objectives * Recommends and integrates benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations * Seeks ways for continuous improvement through process review, best use of technology and tapping into the internal talent potential Team Management * Oversees the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives * Ensures all direct reports have adequate training, resources, and support to perform effectively * Mentors and guides accounting staff by coordinating activities, answering questions, and supporting individual growth/development * Ensures there is a contingency plan, coverage of responsibilities or cross-training in the event of any (temporary or unforeseen) absences or transitions Organizational Accounting * Directs and monitors accounting staff workload ensuring team’s output is accurate and timely * Processes semi-monthly salaried payroll and oversees biweekly hourly payroll administration (source deductions, WCB premiums, etc.) and ensures T4’s are prepared as required * Supervises and coordinates accounts payable, accounts receivables and cheque runs * Reconciles accounts and prepares financial working papers, and all related procedures to maintain an accurate and timely measurement of financial data * Reconciles project expenditures with contracts * Prepares monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements for business analysis * Calculates and issues financial and operating metrics, expenditures, investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations * Coordinates and prepares corporate annual reporting documents in conjunction with external accounting firm and coordinates external audits as required * Produces the annual budgets and forecasts * Calculates variances from the budget and reports significant issues to management POSITION REQUIREMENTS * CPA designation OR a combination of experience, education, and training equivalent to being designated in the field * Ideally 8+ years’ experience in an Accounting role ideally within a medium sized or larger business during high growth periods * Experience with accounting transactions such as consolidation, financial statements preparation, and note disclosure a must * Supervisory experience essential * Proven track record of onboarding, training, and mentoring employees * Advanced skills in Sage 50, Accounting Programs and Microsoft Office * Considerable knowledge of financial reporting under ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise) * Strong communicator who can explain accounting concepts to diverse audiences * Demonstrated ability to adapt and thrive in an entrepreneurial, growing, and changing work environment * Maintains confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism Job Type: 100% office based role Hours: Full time; Part-time hours are open for discussion or feasible Location: Burnaby, BC Salary: $105,000 - $125,000 per annum If you are a seasoned professional with a strong financial acumen and leadership skills, we invite you to apply for this challenging position.
