Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks an Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics beginning in August 2023 to teach courses in language teaching, acquisition and assessment.


1-70%Teaching: Undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics, second language acquisition, and second language teaching. Chair and/or serve on graduate committees in Applied Linguistics. Advise undergraduates pursuing the TESOL minor.Essential
2-20%Research/Creative Activity: Develop and maintain an active research program in Applied Linguistics.Essential
3-10%Service: Provide community outreach and inservice training for adult (e.g., Literacy Council) and K-12 English Language Learner populations; and serve on committees at the program, college, and university levels.Essential

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Linguistics Program invites applications for a tenure-track position (nine-month appointment) at the level of Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics beginning in August 2023. This position has been approved for remote work.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in second language acquisition, and second language teaching, as well as supervising graduate students in Applied Linguistics, and serving as a resource on language teaching for teachers throughout Alaska.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Candidates must demonstrate specialized training, expertise, or experience in language teaching, and Applied Linguistics.
Ability to teach face-to-face and online courses.

Typical Experience:
Demonstrated record of successful teaching and research at the university level related to second language acquisition and assessment. Experience mentoring and training graduate teaching assistants.

Required Education or Training:

PhD in Applied Linguistics or related field at time of appointment.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
