We are in need of 2 recreation assistants to deliver a high-quality and robust activity program to residents in the Ulery building. A current active CNA certification is required for this role.

The Ulery building is a 120-bed memory care setting with 8 secure/semi secure households of 15 residents.

You will be one of four recreation assistants working in this role, in the Ulery building. Your hours will be 8:30 AM to 7 PM, working four 10-hour days and in a rotation for weekend coverage. You will have a primary assignment of 30 residents and will also assist with larger recreation events.

Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS’s) new vaccine mandate for healthcare workers (published on November 5, 2021 and affirmed by the United States Supreme Court on January 13, 2022), all potential employees of this facility must have received, at a minimum, the first dose of a primary series or a single dose vaccine OR have an approved religious or medical exemption (as determined by the Iowa Veterans Home) OR have documentation reflecting a temporary delay in vaccination (as determined by the agency in accordance with CDC allowances), prior to the start date. Candidates shall coordinate with agency staff to ensure all requirements are met before the individual provides any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its residents.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Two years of full-time work experience in a recreational, arts, crafts, or music activity program.
2) A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in art, music, physical education, recreation, the social/behavioral sciences or closely related areas equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as an Activities Aide or Resident Treatment Worker.
