Job Description

The External Reporting Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the preparation of Nordstrom’s external financial statements and reports and routinely interacts with cross functional teams and finance leadership. This is the most senior skill level before advancing into supervisory responsibilities, and an individual in this role will periodically provide functional advice and training.

A day in the life…

  • Prepare, review and analyze period end financial reporting to ensure accuracy and insight, primarily including the Companys external financial statements and reports such as 10-Q, 10-K, 11-K, and 8-K’s.

  • Understand the balance sheet, P&L and cash flow impacts of account activity, including classifications of financial statement line items

  • Monitor GAAP and SEC developments, consider the impact of proposed changes and prepare updates for the Companys senior management

  • Monitor the Companys business practices to ensure accounting practices and disclosures evolve with the business, and convey technical topics to non-technical audiences

  • Partner with applicable teams to review business performance and advise on financial acumen

  • Provide guidance and training, as applicable, to support the team

  • Understand and apply fundamental accounting and finance concepts, including accurately reviewing reconciliations, preparing and reviewing analytic variances, identifying errors and developing models and analytics to address business needs

  • Contribute to month-end close financial reporting process

  • Support “Lean” concepts to drive continuous process improvements and reporting simplification

You own this if you have…

  • BS/BA in Accounting, CPA preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience

  • Minimum of 2+ years of public (Big 4) experience

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Office products

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in the Retail industry or SEC reporting preferred

  • Experience with Workiva preferred

  • Experience with Oracle general ledger and reporting preferred

  • Experience with Hyperion/Essbase Excel add-in preferred
