As an accountant with the Office of Accounts and Reports (OAR) you will be part of a dynamic team working in a fast-paced, hybrid learning environment to drive the business of the State of Kansas forward by providing agency support and central administration ensuring compliance and providing guidance.

The unique statewide role of the Office of Accounts and Reports allows you to grow professionally by:

  • Developing expertise in the application of statewide financial, accounting and payroll policy across all state agencies
  • Serving as a resource to internal and external customers
  • Utilizing State of Kansas accounting (SMART) and payroll (SHARP) systems
  • Recognizing and effecting needed changes to problematic transactions and communicating with agencies to work toward resolution of identified issues

  • Annual Salary Range: $60,000.00 to $70,000.00

Note: Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

As a member of the Office of Accounts and Reports, Central Responsibilities team, you will execute a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Remitting payroll taxes and deductions to the IRS, other state and local taxing entities, and benefits providers for the State of Kansas
  • Managing pay cycles and ensuring ACH transmissions are sent and received
  • Executing statutory financial directives such as creating funds, establishing, and modifying budgets, and making transfers as scheduled and/or certified
  • Reporting 1099 information to the IRS for payments issued by the State of Kansas
  • Reviewing and approving general ledger journal entries
  • Completing special projects and performing other duties as assigned including applying for federal excise tax refund, applying monthly interest to state accounts and researching escheated checks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of previous experience in professional accounting and/or business systems analyst work. Education in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting. Experience using PeopleSoft Financials 9.0 or higher. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
