Job Description

Education & Enrichment Coordinator – DSI North
Director, Pediatric & Adult Enrichment


Engage in and/or facilitate development efforts, special events, and other efforts in order to promote and support the on-going operation, improvement, and development of DSI. Responsible for planning, implementing, tracking, scheduling, and procurement of supplies for the PEP programs while ensuring the programs meet the individual's goals and plans and all staff documentation is completed. Provide service-related training for Habilitation staff as appropriate.

  • Help to identify areas of discovery based on consumer preferences DSI North.
  • Provide support in areas of program design, development, and implementation. Work with other departments to ensure that staff resources, building space, equipment and supplies align with the Education and Enrichment Programming.
  • Provide staff development, training, and mentoring in Education and Enrichment Programming concepts. Coordinate internal staff development, discussion groups, and electronic learning opportunities.

  • Oversee the development of community integration activities that are consistent with the discovery areas. Identify and develop community partnerships. Work with program staff to identify and schedule meaningful, integrated, community-based activities and volunteer opportunities that target a variety of skills.
  • Maintain general understanding of the Mission and operation of the agency and its services. Represent the people we serve in a positive way by scheduling presentations and tours to promote DSI.
  • Distributes programmatic marketing materials to local businesses and groups in an effort to increase public awareness of DSI’s services.
  • Plan and implement donor and volunteer recognition initiatives.
  • Maintain, handle intake, and tracking of scheduling and exiting of volunteers.
  • Create and/or distribute marketing materials, as needed.
  • Complete at least three (3) relationship-building opportunities in different outlying areas bi-monthly (county meetings, visits to facility locations, work on county activities/events, self-advocacy groups).

  • Gather input from clients on a regular basis to ensure participant outcomes are met. Work with plan coordinators to ensure individual plans are reflective of the services provided.
  • Develop and implement program evaluation tools that measure quantitative and qualitative outcomes. Gather pre, during, and post- implementation data that evaluates the overall success of the Education and Enrichment Program.
  • Participates in developing policies and procedures. Ensures the proper and timely implementation and compliance of established policies and procedures.
  • Oversees department(s) budget, monitors expenses, and participates in generating revenues.
  • Excellent and professional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Education & Enrichment Programming throughout the entire organization.
  • Have own transportation to/from meetings and events in and around the entire service area.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • As a representative of DSI, you will promote and maintain appropriate internal and external disabilities awareness and public relations activities.
  • Ability to work flexible, non-standard hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Provide appropriate curriculum input for PEP.
  • Use of medical adaptive equipment including, but not limited to: Wheelchair, Hoyer Lift, Shower Chair Blood Sugar Testing Equipment is required.
  • Occasional high noise levels may require the use of protective hearing equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, oils, exhaust, paint and other industrial odors.
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids, pests, contagious pathogens, and/or bed bugs.
  • Must be able to climb stairs on an occasional basis to access work areas, which are currently without elevator access. Activities may include but not be limited to: lifting up to 25-50 pounds (depending on persons ser being; reaching; stretching; grasping; visual acuity; walking; squatting; and guiding.
  • Use of medical adaptive equipment including, but not limited to: Wheelchair, Hoyer Lift, Shower Blood Sugar Testing Equipment is required.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, and strong teamwork skills.
  • Must have the ability to successfully work in both independent and group settings. Must be capable of communicating effectively during a crisis situation.
  • Maintain a valid Indiana driver's license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with Medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
  • Must possess and maintain reliable transportation that meets state requirements for transporting persons served.
  • Possess and maintain a clear criminal record per Medicaid Waiver regulation requirements.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and first aid certification annually and perform as necessary.
  • Provide direct care when needed.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain EP1 certification annually and perform as necessary.
  • Dress appropriately as defined by department and agency dress code.

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, or related field preferred; or significant experience in marketing and public relations.
